“Studying for the CYM MA has challenged me to move outside of my comfort zone and to consider perspectives I would not have otherwise encountered. This has impacted my practice as I have refined my understanding and in the process have become more self-aware.”

DAN, CYM MASTERS GRADUATE

Overview

This flexible postgraduate studies pathway is ideal for those newly appointed into children and families ministry roles, or those more established who are seeking to challenge and deepen their understanding and practice in this area.

It enables students to gain an essential grounding in the theology of ministry and of contextual mission, and to combine these foundations with contemporary patterns and approaches in Children and Families Ministry.

Through the analysis of historical and contemporary literature from the field, it will enable students’ to unpack, explore and critique their own ministry with children and their families both theologically and practically.

*Students gain the academic award from the Univeristy of Gloucestershire plus CYM certification in Children and Families Ministry.

Theology, Social Context and Mission

This module will enable students to identify and critically appreciate missional approaches, and their theological roots in Christian thought and practice.  It will introduce concepts and theories of culture, subcultures, diversity and society, and require students to engage both theological and sociological knowledge and understanding. Through assessment tasks, these debates and understandings will be brought to bear on ministry and mission with children and their families.

Human Identity and Ministry

This module will provide an overview of perspectives on human identity and personhood found in development theories, theological anthropology and social and cultural studies. Particular emphasis will focus on an exploration of the concept of imago Dei and use this vantage point to develop an interdisciplinary dialogue on identity formation and social relationships. Through assessment tasks, these debates and understandings will be brought to bear on ministry and mission with children and their families.
