What is the difference between the BA (Hons) Youth & Community Work and the BA (Hons) Theology, Ministry and Mission degrees?
In broad terms, if you are specifically looking to focus exclusively on Youth and Community Work and you are looking to gain professional qualifications in this field in addition to theological training, then this course is right for you. Completing this programme gives you the JNC (professional qualification) in additional to the BA Youth and Community and Practical Theology. The JNC is nationally recognised professional qualification linked to Professional youth and community work.
If you are looking for a broader degree, with a larger overall focus on theology, ministry and mission but with the option of building on this in years 1 and 2 with a specialist focus on youth and community work in your 3rd year, then this is the right course for you. So essentially, your choices in the latter stage of the course dictate whether or not you receive the JNC in addition to the BA Theology, Ministry and Mission. In this programme you may also choose to focus your studies on youth ministry, chaplaincy, and or schoolswork instead – so it leaves the options open to later in your studies whether or not to pursue this professional recognition.
On both courses, you will be placed in a church or Christian charity working with young people as an integral part of your learning and development, as your academic and practical assessment will be focussed on the application of knowledge and understanding to your work and ministry with young people.
