Graduation 2022

Graduation is a proud day for you, your family and your friends, and a chance to celebrate all that you have achieved throughout your time with us at the Institute for Children Youth and Mission.

We're keen to make the day a special one. Find details about your graduation ceremony, what to expect and what you need to do beforehand to ensure that you have happy memories of your graduation for years to come.

Our Graduation will be on 18th November 2022 at Gas Street Central, 41 Gas Street, Birmingham, B1 2JT.

Guest Tickets

Your graduation is a special day and that is why we are keen to enable as many of your family and Friends to attend. During the registration process you can request tickets for family or friends to come and share this day with you.


All guests will need a ticket to the graduation event even if they are young children.


The ticket options are as follows:

£45 for a family ticket (two adults and up to two children or one adult and up to three children*) £25 for an individual
£10 for any additional tickets (purchased in addition to the individual ticket and family tickets)

*children under 5 can attend for free 

Please select ‘Institute for Children, Youth and Mission’ as your institution, and not Staffordshire University.  You can do this by searching for 'CYM'.

Ordering Your Gown

To make sure you look the part on your graduation day, order your academic dress in plenty of time and pick it up on the day of your ceremony.

So that you can take part in your graduation ceremony, you must wear the correct academic dress. You can hire a gown for the ceremony from our official robe maker Ede and Ravenscroft.

How to hire a gown:

You will be ordering your gown from Ede and Ravenscroft online. The link above for booking tickets will also allow you to order your gown and photography.

The deadline to pre-order your gown is Wednesday 9th November

If you miss the deadline, you may be able to hire a gown on the day of your ceremony, but there is no guarantee of availability and the cost is more expensive. We strongly advise you to order your gown in advance.

Collecting your gown

Gowning will start at 10:30. We recommend you arrive promptly to ensure that you are ready for your ceremony. You can then return your gown to the same place after the ceremony.

What to wear under your gown

Graduation ceremonies are formal occasions, so please dress smartly. We recommend formal attire such as a dark suit or dress or other formal attire relating to your cultural tradition or national costume.

Your graduation ceremony is a special time for you to recognise and celebrate your achievement and hard work.

Here's a run-down of what you can expect to happen on the day itself.

Arriving at Gas Street Central

We recommend you arrive at 10:30 which will give you time before the ceremony to undertake your gowning and enable your formal photographs to be taken.

Please allow plenty of time for extremely busy morning traffic. The ceremony will begin at the scheduled time. We also cannot admit students or guests once the ceremony has begun.

When you arrive

Make your way to the registration desk with your tickets and collect your programme.

Collect your gown

Once you have registered you can go to collect your gown. Have your order number and tickets ready.


Formal individual photographs will be taken prior to the ceremony, while group photographs will be taken after.

Before the ceremony

Refreshments (Tea/Coffee/Pastries/Fruit) will be made available prior to the ceremony from 10.30am

You need to be ready to gather with your fellow Graduands at 12.20 ready to process . Ede and Ravenscroft will be on hand to check you are in the correct academic dress as you enter the Hall.

Guests should be ready to seat at 12.20 to ensure that the ceremony can start on time.

The ceremony procedure

The Presiding Officer will address and welcome all students and guests.

A formal academic procession will enter followed by the graduand procession.

A senior member of academic staff will announce the degree type (for example, MA, BA) and will present graduating students for that degree.

When it comes to your degree, you will be directed to the platform. When the presenter announces your name, you will move onto the stage and proceed forward to the member of academic staff to collect your documents.

You then exit the stage and return to your seat.

There will be a time of sung worship, an awarding of a fellowship, preach and student awards. A member of the trustee board will pray for those graduating and those gathered

The Presiding Officer will declare the congregation closed, and the academic party will recess out of the Hall shortly followed by the graduands.


If guests have joined you for your graduation ceremony, make sure they know what to expect on the day so things run smoothly.

All guests (including children over the age of 5) will need a ticket to enter the graduation - no one will be allowed in without one.
