Postgraduate study in Mission and Ministry provides experienced workers and graduate entrants the opportunity to study alongside their ministry roles and gain a qualification that will sharpen their understanding and enhance their practice.

Developed in consultation with CYM graduates, employers, and practice specialists, this postgraduate qualification offers the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills required for contemporary work with children and families, youth ministry, and chaplaincy roles in schools, hospitals, and other community contexts.

Integrating postgraduate level learning with CPD opportunities, the MA is a practical way to keep your professional knowledge and skills relevant and current. This course provides a unique approach to developing the theological thinking, reflective practice, and research skills needed to shape, lead, and develop transformational mission and ministry in context.

Specialist Pathways enable you to target your study and get a named award certificate for that pathway, please see below for more information. You can also study without a specialist pathway, please click here to apply for the non-pathway route.

Studying on the MA in Mission and Ministry will enable you to gain:

  • A theological and theoretical basis for mission and ministry learned across diverse community contexts.
  • Experience working in the groups and contexts that matter to you due to a flexible range of optional modules.
  • A critical understanding of community and church-based work and the tools to transform your practice.
  • A range of transferrable skills for your future career such as: independent and creative thinking, self-organisation, communication, project management, and the ability to work as a team.

Study fully online

All of our teaching takes place online giving you the flexibility to learn in your community – wherever you are in the world.

Learning online includes a mix of scheduled group sessions and other individual work which you can schedule in your own time. This includes zoom lectures, seminars and group work activities, as well as pre-recorded teaching and other flexible activities to complete before attending your next group session.

Typically there is an intensive study block of 3 or 4 days at the start of each module where students explore the topic together, then you fit online activities round your other commitments and optional study group sessions. The exact pattern varies by module.

Students following a specialist pathway route have the requirement for 480 hours of practice over the first two years, usually in a local church, school or other community project to demonstrate competence for the specialist pathway award.
